Getting around London

The Home Of Capital Accommodation In London

One of the greatest cities in the world, London is cosmopolitan, chic and, at times, just a little bit over the top. From the iconic red double decker buses to super sleek skyscrapers, there’s always something to do and something to see within England’s capital city.  The following is our guide to getting the best out of this fantastic city from the comfort of a furnished, serviced apartment.

Getting around

Finding your way around London is simple and affordable with its straightforward underground train system (known as the tube), buses and cabs.  Grab yourself an Oyster Card in order to make your travel more affordable during your stay (you can buy tube tickets at stations by cash or card but, buses are strictly Oyster-only).  If you have the time (and the stamina) walk wherever possible to make sure that you don’t miss anything.  Wherever you’re staying in London, there will usually be a tube station within a short walk of your serviced apartment.   As with a lot of cities, taxis – including Uber – are readily available but, try to avoid black cabs for anything other than very short journeys as these can be really expensive.

The big attraction

If you’re planning on visiting some of London’s incredible attractions such as The London Eye, Madame Tussauds and The Tower Of London, it’s a good idea to grab yourself a London Pass for some great discounts.

Eating and drinking

If there’s one thing that London isn’t short of, it’s bars and restaurants – and the choice is endless.  From greasy spoon cafes to the swanky Aqua Shard restaurant, London really does have something for everyone.  If you don’t know where to start, check out Groupon for some fabulous offers on food and drink to help you stretch your travel budget that little bit further.  Whilst in the city, be sure to stop for a pint or two in some of London’s famous pubs and soak up the atmosphere in an historic setting.

Where to stay

London is home to some of best experiences in the world, throughout the year and, centrally located accommodation is more affordable than you may think with a serviced apartment – the choice of the savvy traveller,   Available fully furnished and in central locations, an apartment is not just an affordable way to stay in London (including being able to buy your own food and drink) but, also offers much more flexibility and freedom than a hotel with its rigid mealtimes and bar opening hours.  Durmwell offers serviced apartments in stunning Central London locations including Covent Garden, Oxford Circus, Chancery Lane and trendy Shoreditch.

Don’t miss

As well as the famous landmarks in the big smoke, London has it’s share of curiosities and quirky locations if you’re prepared to venture a little off the beaten track.  From drinking coffee in a Victorian toilet to a visit to God’s Own Junkyard, one trip to London will never, ever be enough!
